There was
a battle in Ruunawere on February 3rd 1567. The Polish forces defeated Swedish
forces led by Henrik Clausson Horn. Swedes lost about 2000 men. Balthazar
Russow has described the battle in his chronicle.
Some 250 years
later Russians built a post station to Ruunawere. The main building was
completed in year 1824 and inside there is still rare mantel flue, a huge
room like chimney.
When Estonia
changed to its own currency kroon in June 16th 1992 a crowd with prestige
was gathered in the courtyard at the midnight to bury the last ruble. The
tombstone is still there.
